LUBBOCK, Texas – The Bobcats swept their two games today after picking up wins over UTEP (7-0) and New Mexico State (9-1) in six innings at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic. The Bobcats finished the weekend 3-1 and improved to 17-6 on the year.
The Bobcats wasted no time getting on the board as Sara Vanderford hit a solo home run in the top of the first to give the Bobcats the early lead.
The Aggies tied things up in the bottom of the third after capitalizing on a Bobcat error that allowed Jessica Carreon to score.
Karmyn Bass hit a 2-run homer in the top of the fourth to give the Bobcats the lead again 3-1. The Aggies were able to get two runners on base in the bottom of the fourth but failed to bring in any runs.
The Bobcats blew the game open in the top of the fifth inning after a Emilee Baker double drove in Katarina Zarate after she hit a double for her own. Vanderford hit a single, but errors by the Aggies allowed her to advance to third while Baker scored another run. Anna Jones capped on the inning with a single up the middle that drove home Vanderford. The Aggies went down in order in the bottom half of the inning and the Bobcats were ahead 6-1 after five innings of play.
The Bobcats tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth inning that was filled with miscues by the Aggies. Zarate kicked things off by tripling and scoring off of a bad throw. Baker then reached first base on an error, Earls was walked, and Makayla Hall was hit by a pitch to load up the bases. Halee Vance pitch hit for Ciara Trahan and was also walked, and this brought in a run for the Bobcats. Jones was walks and then a wild pitch allowed Earls to score to push the lead to eight. The Aggies went down in order in the bottom of the sixth and this gave the Bobcats another run rule win 9-1, their second run rule won over the Aggies in back-to-back days.
Next up for the Bobcats: A return home to San Marcos where they will have a three-game series with Penn State that will feature one game on Thursday, March 7 at 6pm and a doubleheader on Friday, March, 8 with start times of 4pm and 6:30pm. The promotion for Thursday’s game is $1 hot dog day so be sure to bring your appetite!

•Sara Vanderford hit her fourth home run of the season and she currently has 33 career home runs. She is second all-time on the Bobcats list trailing only Ariel Ortiz, who has 39.
•Karmyn Bass hit her first home run of the season.
•The Bobcats are now on a 3-game winning streak after losing 2 in a row.
