LUBBOCK, Texas – The Bobcats were shutout for the second consecutive game against the UTEP Miners after losing in 5 innings by a score of 8-0.

The Miners wasted no time getting on the board as they put up 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning. After an Autumn Scott single, Halle Hogan doubled to center field to bring her home and put the first run on the board. Ajia Richard singled to left center field and drove in Hogan. Idalis Mendez would then single and move Richard to third base. Next, Lynne Sepulveda grounded out, but this moved Mendez to second base and allowed Richard to score. The Bobcats would be trailing by 3 after the first frame.

After a scoreless second inning for both teams, the Miners would strike again in the bottom of the third inning. Scott would get a leadoff single and would move to third base two batters later when Richard picked up her second hit of the day. Scott was called safe at home after the throw was a little late and the lead was now 4.

After another scoreless inning from the Bobcats, Ashlyn Allen would pick up another leadoff single for the Miners. Bobcats’ pitcher Maddy Azua got the next batter to ground out but was replaced by Analisa Soliz. Lexi Morales would double and move Allen to third base and then Hogan cleared the bases with a double to push the lead to six. Richard then hit a 2-run home run to put the lead at 8 and put the Bobcats on the brink of being run ruled.

Sara Vanderford would get a single for the Bobcats in the top of the fifth, just the third hit of the game for the Bobcats, but they failed to produce a run and the game was over. The Bobcats fall to 14-6 on the season and are now on a two-game losing streak.
