LUBBOCK, Teas – The Bobcats wasted no time bouncing back against the New Mexico State Aggies after losing 8-0 earlier in the day to the UTEP Miners.
The Bobcats capitalized on two early errors by the Aggies that allowed Hannah Earls to reach first base and then a second error allowed Sara Vanderford to reach and allowed Earls to score. Anna Jones then hit a 2-run home run that pushed the lead to three. A third error in the inning allowed Karmyn Bass to reach base and a Piper Randolph double moved Bass to third base. JJ Smith doubled to drive in Bass and Randolph but was called out at third on the play. The Bobcats held a 5-0 lead after one inning of play.
Both teams went down 1-2-3 in the second inning, but the Bobcats would add another run in the bottom of the third inning. Jones doubled and then advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Bass grounded out but still drove in Jones to push the lead to six after three innings.
The Aggies would threaten in the top of the sixth as they had runners in the corners, but they failed to bring them home. Katarina Zarate hit a solo homerun to start the bottom of the sixth inning for the Bobcats and pushed the lead to 7. Sydney Harvey would reach on yet another error by the Aggies and then advanced to second on a Halee Vance groundout. Vanderford would then single to left center field and this would bring in Harvey for the game winning run.
After being run ruled in game 1 earlier in the day against the Miners, the Bobcats produced a run rule win of their own after defeating the Aggies 8-0 in six innings.
Game Summary
•Jessica Mullins improved to 8-2 on the season and pitched 4 innings, tallying up 6 strikeouts with no earned runs. This is her 77th career win.
•Karsen Pierce entered the game at the start of the 5th inning and pitched 2 innings with 0 earned runs and 2 strikeouts.
•The Bobcats improved to 12-1 when scoring first this season and they are now 15-6 on the year.
•Anna Jones picked up her first home run of the season and Katarina Zarate hit her third of the season.
