SAN MARCOS, Texas – In a pitching duel between Bobcats’ ace Jessica Mullins and Longhorns’ standout Teagan Kavan, the Longhorns did just enough to walk away with a 1 run win.

Mullins dropped to 7-2 on the season and pitched a complete game. She gave up only 1 run to a Longhorns team that has been averaging 9 runs per game and struck out 6 batters.
After three innings, neither team had scored any runs. However, in the top of the fourth inning, the game took a turn. A double by Katie Stewart, followed by a groundout by Reese Atwood, put Stewart only 60 feet away from scoring. Then, Joley Mitchell hit a single and Stewart was able to cross home plate, giving the Longhorns the lead.
Ciara Trahan started the fourth inning with a walk for the Bobcats. Sara Vanderford then advanced Trahan to second base on a sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch allowed Trahan to reach third base. However, the Bobcats were unable to score as Anna Jones grounded out and Karmyn Bass popped out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Bobcats threatened again when Hannah Earls got a leadoff single. She then stole second base and advanced to third on a wild throw. But once again the Bobcats would fail to drive her in. The lone run scored by the Longhorns in the fourth inning proved to be the winning run as the Bobcats fell to the Longhorns 1-0 and ended their 7-game win streak.
After the game, Coach Woodard had the following to say, “I thought we competed well. That’s a good ball club over there and I thought Mullins threw the ball as well as she could possibly throw to keep us in the ball game and give us a chance to win. We had a chance to win. You can’t really ask for more than that except maybe two runs to their one.” (This quote was used from an interview that was written on the Texas State Softball official website and the full article where this quote was used from can be found by clicking here.)
