TEMPE, Arizona – The Bobcats remained undefeated (5-0) in this weekend’s tournament as they picked up a 4-1 win against the Idaho State Bengals today and pushed their current win streak to six and their overall record to 13-4. Just like in game 1 earlier today, the Bobcats jumped ahead early as their bats remained hot. Hannah Earls got things going with a lead-off single but would be thrown out at second base after Ciara Trahan reached on a fielder’s choice. Sara Vanderford singled next and that moved Trahan to second base. Anna Jones reached on another fielder’s choice that moved Vanderford to second and saw Trahan get called out at third. Karmyn Bass hit a single that scored Vanderford and loaded up the bases. Piper Randolph then hit a double that drove in Anna Jones and Bass, giving her a second straight game with 2 RBI’s. The Bengals were able to score one run on a wild pitch by Maddy Azua and the Bobcats remained ahead 3-1 after the first inning. The Bengals were able to load the bases in the second inning but failed to drive in any runs. Both teams went three up and three down the next two innings and then the Bengals left an additional two runners stranded in the fifth inning. The Bobcats were able to get two runners on base in the sixth inning, but just like the Bengals earlier, they failed to drive in any runs. JJ Smith would get a lead-off double to start the seventh inning and Dani Laughlin came in to pinch run for her. Megan Kelnar singled through the right side and would be called out at second base on the play, but not before Laughlin crossed home plate to push the Bobcats’ lead back to three. This would prove to be enough to get the win 4-1 and help the Bobcats remain flawless in this weekend’s tournament. The Bobcats have one more game this weekend as they move to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon tomorrow at 12:30pm (central time).
