TEMPE, Arizona – The Bobcats picked up right where they left off yesterday after two wins against Seton Hall and Ohio State. Much like yesterday’s games, the Bobcats struck early and capitalized on errors to take control of the game in the first inning against the Utah Valley Wolverines. With the bases loaded Karmyn Bass hit a single that drove in Ciara Trahan to put the Bobcats up by one. Piper Randolph was up next and delivered a double that brought in Anna Jones and Bass to push the lead to three after one inning. With the bases loaded once again in the second inning Jones was able to reach on a fielding error that allowed Hannah Earls to score to put the game at 4-0 in favor of the Bobcats. A wild pitch in the top of the third would allow the Wolverines to get on the board as Danye Albritton was able to score on the play. The Wolverines would once again score another run in the top of the sixth inning as redshirt junior Megan Gibbs hit a solo home run to cut the Bobcats’ lead to two. The Wolverines were able to make things interesting in the top of the seventh inning as they were able to load up the bases and get another run after Gibbs was walked and that allowed Britney Moreno to score to cut the lead down to one run. Senior pitcher Jessica Mullins was able to come in and get a strikeout for the final out and put the game away. The Bobcats held on to win 4-3 and improved to 12-4 on the season and pushed their win streak to five games. They are also undefeated in this weekend’s tournament as they are now 4-0 as they prepare to face Idaho State later today at 2:15pm (central time).
